Scripts

This page describes issues related to the use of the scripts extension within Group Policy. This is unrelated to scripting of the GPMC console itself. For more information on GPMC scripting, see the Scripting GPMC page.

Note that there are two aspects to the application of scripts at the client:

  • Application of the scripts policy. When the policy is applied the details of the script are written to the local machine. Ths occurs occurs during policy process. At this stage the scripts are NOT run.
  • Running of the script(s). This is handled by a completely seperate process.

Some of the policy settings that affect how scripts are run (such as to not run the script extension over slow links) may affect the first aspect above but not the second. If the scripts policy has been processed and you then log on over a slow links, the policy settting is not be reapplied but the scripts still attempt to run.

Hi,
When I assign a simple user logon .bat via a GPO under and logon as a regular user.I get access is denied..
-Group Policy object
-User Configuration
-Windows Settings
-Scripts (Logon) .
However if I ran this same .bat maually or if assigned via the the user
properties - profile TAB I have no problems .

Any ideas..
Thanks Darren

I'm having some difficulty with Userenv error 1085 relating to client-side extension scripts.  I've reviewed userenv.log and gptext.log.  It's happening on all of my DCs and clients.  In userenv.log I get a "Extension Scripts returned 0x2" aka file not found.  Ever see anything like this?

If I understand the question correctly simply remove the script from the 'user profile' in the AD account and reference it from the GPO. For users reference it as a logon script under user configuration and if it is for computer specific configuration reference it under computer config as a startup script.
