I agree that the news idea is a bit lost, since there are only one or two links that constitute "real news."  Vendor sponsorship may not be the best test for whether a document relates to third party products.  I posted four ebooks that exclusively cover native Group Policy.  The difference between the ebooks and the articles is the length.  In fact one of the ebooks is a collection of published articles from Windows IT Pro.  I'd suggest creating a page under 'Reference' for links to published reference material (ebooks, technical articles, whitepapers, case studies) and then keep the news page for current "news", such as the release of the cool new resource kit book.

Many of these references are less news and more vendor-sponsored books and articles. Maybe we should put these on the 3rd party page lest they be confused with "real news"?
